Round 1: Fight (part 2)

March 4, 2011

Last night I started writing reviews on legacy decks (round 1 part 1) to be honest when I re-read it, I hated it. this is what I get for middle of the night blogging when I am wired from homemade ice tea and lack of sleep!

Lesson learned!

moving on to part two…

Continuing on deck lists we come to MTGO user: Lucindo who went with an LED Build of ANT, I love ANT in many ways, it was really one of those awesome combo decks before Mystical Tutor got banned, and it still is an awesome combo deck even afterwards. While it goes off a turn later, it still is pretty hard to counter the storm unless you are prepared for it. Force of Will aint gonna cut it bitches!!!

Now XShockWaveX he/she went 4-0 with a landstill deck (PS I HATE LAND DECKS!!), not really your most traditional build of the deck, as it has from what i can see many aggro lands, that come into play tapped. however after reviewing the other legacy decks of that day in the top 8 he was the only one running wastelands, and crucible to protect his/her ass. there are many one of’s in the deck which i find surprising for normally a control style deck, but with the inclusion of moat and standstill, its pretty safe to say he ran the board really well. Now even though I hate land decks, I can respect them in many ways, they are there to do exactly what they do. stop your aggro and force you into the ground. The only problem I find with most land decks is they win most of the time because people just give up against them, unless you come out swinging faster then they can control you really its just a matter of time before time runs out.

Wonder Boy on the other hand is playing legacy RUG, but the red really isn’t super predominant in the deck, it’s more or less a splash here and there for sideboard interaction, for grim lavamancer. I have never really gone against a rug deck in my metagame, so i cant really comment on its interaction what so ever. I am surprised with the inclusion of the Quirion Dryad a dollar rare that can outdo goyf if given time. clique control is annoying given any format, except standard, standard sucks, yeah that’s right i said it!! oh look at me i play standard and face the 4 same decks every FNM woohoo!! boring!!!

I really do dislike standard, but mind you I do run standard decks, for those odd friday nights where i have nothing better to do than to go to FNM (Valkut, U/W Control, and my B/W Control that side boards into blue, yeah my entire sideboard is blue, with the inclusion of lands as well, it’s funny as shit, of did you sideboard for my black removal? aww too bad i took it all out for blue counter bitches)

moving on to the last deck of the week winners, Stable played a show and tell deck with alot of disruption and counter magic. many show and tell decks these days seem to run natural order as well, or sneak attack, but this straight up hate which I love, and including shelldock doomsday is fucking brillant!! I can really see this has being the combo heavy part of the deck, but im still going to call it show and tell. shelldock and doomsday is so dangerous to play sometimes especially with all the land hate in legacy. fucking your library to 5 cards and then your opponent wastelanding your shelldock is so heartbreaking, but I can see the protection package in his deck for such instances with stifle. I respect stifle and it’s dick ability to just fuck triggers and abilities like they are nothing to worry about…but i guess that is what you get when you play blue.

Main Deck

60 cards
3 Flooded Strand
1 Island
4 Marsh Flats
4 Polluted Delta
1 Scrubland

3 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
4 Brainstorm
2 Dark Ritual
4 Doomsday
4 Duress
4 Force of Will
2 Inquisition of Kozilek
4 Lim-DA?l’s Vault
1 Lotus Petal
1 Ponder
2 Sensei’s Divining Top
4 Show and Tell
3 Stifle
1 Wipe Away

sideboard

2 Damping Matrix
4 Engineered Plague
4 Leyline of the Void
1 Nihil Spellbomb
2 Pithing Needle
1 Snap
1 Wipe Away

So those were the decks, a huge variety you really don’t see. I am still confused entirely about that one with all the locus lands, I mean i get it, but i don’t get it either? but i’m not going to argue, I convinced a friend of mine to build that deck so we can play it out tomorrow night at FNM, while i wont be participating in FNM I am going to go and play legacy with a few of the guys there.

anyways that’s all for now, happy gaming!!!
