Zoo Dominates At SCG Invitational

June 5, 2011

As I am writing this article, I am currently listening to SCG Announcers discuess the MTG Invitational. However, right now we want to know more Pat Cox and Jim Davis final game. If you happened to miss the final game this evening, I will put in the words of twitter user WillieGMyPrez “BURNED THE SHIT OUT OF HIM” Pat Cox in the final game of the match, held his hand close. Chain Lightening, Chain Lighting, Lighting Bolt, Lightening Helix – Jim Davis who was sitting at 12 life got eliminated by taking that to the face. While Pat Cox sat at 5 life, with the possible chance of being overrun by a swarm of Goblins. It was one of the most beautifully played endings to a Finals Match that brought the cup to Pat Cox.

Two Zoo Decks, made the top 8 at this weekends SCG Invitational, Pat Cox and Patrick Sullivan both wielded what was rumoured to be dead decks. Well Two dead decks made the Top 8 this weekend. While at the time I do not have Pat Cox’s list, Patrick Sullivan’s Zoo Deck is available:

4 Goblin Guide
3 Grim Lavamancer
4 Kird Ape
4 Steppe Lynx
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Wild Nacatl

1 Sylvan Library

2 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt

4 Chain Lightning
4 Rift Bolt

4 Arid Mesa
3 Plateau
4 Taiga
4 Wasteland
3 Windswept Heath
4 Wooded Foothills

1 Null Rod
2 Qasali Pridemage
2 Path to Exile
2 Price of Progress
1 Pyroblast
4 Red Elemental Blast
1 Umezawa’s Jitte
2 Gaddock Teeg

Jim Davis, whom won one of the last grinders to get into the invitational, also dominated until the very end facing off Pat Cox – However two memorable games, were both against Edgar Flores – the first ended with a draw, in which to be honest Edgar Flores reacted very negatively at the end, he didn’t need the draw at X-1 at the beginning of the day. Fast forward to later in the evening, Flores got into the top 8 and faced off again against Jim Davis – this match ended very differently then the match up they had earlier in the day. Jim Davis at one point locked out Edgar Flores with his goblins trashing Edgar’s batterskulls, this pretty much locked the game as it Edgar was unable to recover at this point and gave the game to Jim Davis.

However this is it for now, as I am about to watch the Top 8 of The Legacy Open!
